You can share one site with other people without handing over your account. Invite them by email at one of three levels, and change or remove their access whenever you need to. Sharing is free on every site.
The three levels
Analytics only is for clients and colleagues who want the numbers. They see that site’s analytics, and its name and address so they know what they’re looking at. They cannot:
- change anything about the site
- see your repository, deploy key, webhook or environment variables
- see your forms, bookings, domains or deployments
- see what the site pays for, or change it
- invite anyone else
If the site has Analytics Plus, they see the Plus figures too. The data belongs to the site, not to the person looking at it.
Manager is for the people who build and run the site. A manager can deploy, change settings and domains, manage forms and bookings, and read and change the build settings and secrets, including the deploy key, webhook and environment variables. A manager cannot see or change billing, turn paid features on or off, delete the site, or share it with anyone else. If they press an upgrade button, they’re asked to contact an owner.
Owner is for someone who should have the same control as you: everything above, plus billing, paid features, sharing and deleting the site. A site can have several owners.
Nobody you invite can see any of your other sites, whatever their level.
Inviting someone
Open the site, go to Settings, and find Sharing. Pick a level, type their email address and press Send invitation.
They get an email saying who invited them, which site it’s for, and what they’ll be able to do. Clicking the link signs them in and takes them to the site.
They don’t need an account first. If they’ve never used statichost.uk, the link creates a free one for that email address. It’s an ordinary account, so they can host their own sites on it if they ever want to, separately from yours.
Each link works once. An analytics link expires after 7 days. A manager or owner link expires after 48 hours, because it hands over deployments and secrets. If a link lapses, send another.
Changing or removing access
The Sharing panel lists the person who created the site, everyone you’ve shared it with, and every invitation still waiting to be accepted. An invitation past its expiry is shown as expired rather than disappearing, so you can see why nothing happened and send it again.
To change someone’s level, pick a new one from the dropdown next to their name. The change applies straight away, up or down, and they’re emailed their new level.
Remove takes access away on their next page load, not whenever their session happens to expire.
Any owner can change or remove other people, including other owners. The person who created the site can’t be changed or removed.
Anyone you’ve invited can also remove themselves, from the Leave this site link at the top of the shared site.
Paying for features on a shared site
Any owner can pay for Analytics Plus, Forms Plus or Bookings Plus. Whoever pays is billed and gets the receipts.
Settings has a Billing section, visible to owners, listing each paid feature and who pays for it. Check it before paying, so two owners don’t buy the same feature.
To move a paid feature onto your own card, press Pay with my card instead. Nothing is charged that day: your first payment is taken when the period already paid for ends, and the previous owner stops paying once your card is saved. If you already pay and want to use a different card, the same button reads Use a different card.
If you move an owner down to manager or analytics, anything they pay for stays on their card until another owner takes it over in Billing.
Where shared sites appear
For someone you’ve invited as an owner, the site sits in their sites list with their own. For a manager or analytics viewer, it shows under Shared with you, labelled with the email address of the person who created it. An analytics viewer only gets the Analytics tab; a manager gets every tab except the owner’s controls.
